Tomtom – XL IQ Very good GPS

September 16, 2009

Most:

- Somewhat sensible (even in large metropolitan)
- Starting rather early even after loss of GPS signal
- Good ergonomics thanks to its wide-screen
- Robust
- System setting to share break-witted
- Speaker Nickel: clear path is understandable
- Software compatible Macintosh (Mac OS X)
- Customizable GPS (for those who like to customize their GPS: image host etc …)
- Ability to recharge the GPS by connecting (via USB) to a computer before departure.
- Autonomy without connection to the cigarette lighter very correct (over an hour) (thus we can use it on foot, in town for example).
- Quality / price excellent
- Recalculates route quickly (few seconds)
- Guaranteeing update map at the first use of GPS (and we have the opportunity to have the last card available to load into the device regardless of the time of purchase)

The -:

- No SD Card, so has limited 2GB memory (no problem if we do not add too many “gadgets”)
- Transfer from one computer to GPS slow (very very very slow: several hours to load a map … Europe!)
- Database radar TomTom pay (but can find free on the internet)
- No cover supplied with the unit
- No adjustment of brightness of the screen (but not very penalizing)

——————-

After several months of use, I think this GPS completed its function, I was reluctant to use this type of device, I am not disappointed.
He took me out of business more than once.
Thus the displacements are stress free …

The software that comes with the GPS is OK but could be improved. (Though to back up his GPS before manipulation, otherwise all is lost …)
I have about this contact the VAS TomTom (problem updating map), the response was rapid but incomplete. Fortunately the internet there are special forums on which TomTom have found solutions.

Tomtom – XL IQ ultimate in the category

September 13, 2009

The device works very well and has an ergonomic enough.
The display although “XL” is not very large, depending on where one places (windshield too remote = low visibility).
The big worry, unacceptable on a camera so successful, is the USB plug that stuck and arranged in L instead of being just right on the cable.
At first use, the plug is stuck so hard that I had to remove it with pliers, and cable is dead!
Thank you to Amazon for free replacement of the cable with another of a different brand (Garmin in this case), which is easily removed.

I am very satisfied with this product in general. It meets my expectations and beyond. The options are very rich.
I hesitate to purchase the GM if mine had a break or other.
However, I find it unfortunate that the options in language, Arabic is not present.

Moving from paper maps to TOM-TOM, it’s like moving from a direction normal to the steering, is comfortable and convenient, right out of the box. We do not know the camera and we went on vacation the next day! In the final paper maps remained in the trunk of the car during the holidays. We appreciated the quick re-calculation of new routes and display the specific determination of the correct file if multi-lane roads. They will continue to test the updating

Nothing wrong with the camera itself, except perhaps setting system that is not top when the camera is set flat on a patch for vacuum aspiration because of the suction cup is obviously not great. On important routes (especially when the sun is directly on the cup) it tends to detach … The time of catching the satellite is indeed long (2 to 3 minutes if you have not updated the positions of the satellites (which is very easy to do when the device is plugged into the computer) 1 to 2 minutes only otherwise). This is moderately disabling to the extent that planning is done from the ignition of the device with the stored position when off it. Once the current position update, a recalculation of the route is completed (prior to taking into account the parameters previously set, but further tests deserve to be done to make sure)

Regarding the version of tomtom 8, the Planning IQ activated sometimes “strange”, but travel times are given relatively reliable … A test, however, more! The recalculation of routes where one goes the route shown are fast enough.

Attention radar map that installs on first use is completely obsolete! It is imperative to update!

I’m staying for now broadly satisfied with this purchase.

This GPS is easy to use simply mind-blowing. Without reading the manual (very brief) they soon became familiar with the tool.
When you turn the TomTom, it takes a little time to synchronize with a satellite, but once connected, it never loses the signal and route recalculation is very fast. The large screen provides great readability route to take.
Only flat, software usage TomTom Home it is mandatory to use is well done and easy to use, but as stated in other reviews, backups and updates of maps and software are very long because the TomTom has only a USB1 port.
Considering the price displayed and the services provided by GPS is an excellent deal.

I think this GPS has an excellent value for money. Easy to use, pretty, fast, intuitive. Of course it has the characteristics that have made a name for Tomtom and rightly so. MapShare function which allows the card to correct oneself, updating the card personalization GPS … Etc.

I could not find the GPS chose the most logical route but ultimately it has allowed me to explore other routes which are sometimes more convenient and faster because they avoid traffic jams, fires … Etc.

a big positive point: the advance technology that indicates lane, using an accurate representation of the motorway exit, take that. Can not go wrong.

I am very satisfied with my purchase

upgrading radars in TOM TOM pays; bad !!…
Fortunately there on the internet a good free site to do this ….
42 countries that encumbers the memory and does not serve me as very shortly ….
I’ll have to limit myself to a model with fewer countries

Great product, very easy to use. Regarding the update, it works but you get the map “Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB” format. “Zip” in “My Documents TomTom HOME Download Complete map”, it suffices to extract ” . zip “(there are normally 2) and reinstall the map from TomTom HOME. At first when I installed the updated map of Europe, it did not, the machine told me that the card was found and I could not even access the main menu, then when I extracted ” . zip “and reinstalled the card, it worked nickel.
So to share this little tip to know is a really good GPS.

I had a navman n20 and although there is no picture!
The navman is simpler but less good!
On the road signs are very clear and the volume impec!
The days have made are without problems, I do nothing else but to install tomtom home and it runs all alone!
It reacts very quickly when you do not follow “are itinerary” and “understands” that chose to say “please ….”
I was able to report a bridge closed for works in minutes!
It shows your speed and that allowed the estimated time without setting it as home!
Small flat on the USB, it is very hard, and always afraid of everything torn!

Tomtom – XL IQ Good product

Garmin GPS – XL Edition TM IQ Routes – GPS Europe 42 Countries in itself seems like a good product but the mounting system is not known. The vacuum, which is initially firmly attached to the support stands after a few minutes and the aircraft plummets dashboard, which is of course not ideal for him. Not yet Update: I see right now is what it says.

Probably a good product tabled a reasonable price …. but what Calvary update the map of Europe? s! J?’ve Put 27 hours in total!! In principle, the TomTom Home software looks for updated map from the internet and copy the hard drive. Thereafter it is copied to the internal memory of? Device. Very Good in theory … In practice the internet connection is lost after several hours of wait with and be repeated several times. Once copied the map on the hard disk of the computer to it is “automatically” installed on l? ‘Device. Again with a lot of problems – the connection is lost, the software crashes … But the real problem comes later – the repeated attempts of? Installation complete by leaving traces of the files? ‘Device and accordingly has a certain time we can not continue for lack of? Space. Completely desperate, j? Have ended by reformatting the hard drive? S ‘camera, not recommended for small d? Mind … and … has a new start … And all this … 3 times in total. Can you imagine? C? Is very unfortunate, I do not understand how a company the size of TomTom can allow its customers spend such an ordeal …. .

Tomtom – XL IQ Good product, good mapping

September 13, 2009

No problem with this product.
Little documentation supplied in the package.
Perhaps a screen brightness a little low.
Excellent mapping for Europe (for what I used).
Good sensitivity to GPS signals and early detection.
Overall very satisfied.
